5th Generation Lemon Butter Maker

This Girl wants to take over the Kitchen! Cherry was home, sick and the day before I had been talking about making Lemon Butter, because we have a good crop of lemons.

Well didn't she just get it sorted, got out pen and paper, and started to write her recipe, then hasseled me untill I got out my recipe book, for all the measurements. Well she did it, and being the first time she cooked this, took it slow and easy in the micograve, and had great sucess. She also made tart cases from the left over Apple Pie pastry. Yummo!

This is my Great Grandmothers Recipe, I remember my Grandmother making it, my mother uses it on top of her baby Ricotta Cheesecakes, I put it in tart cases, and now my daughter is cooking it, (and eating it from the jar) Isn't it great to have family recipes.

Naturally I'm sworn to secrecy not to give the recipe away, so don't tell anyone- Its a Secret.

Lemon Butter

2 Tbs Butter

4 Tbs Sugar (White)

2 eggs

juice of 2 Lemons

Mix all ingredients in a bowl, and either cook over a double boiler, or microwave for 30 secs at a time. Keep the mixture moving untill it is thick. Serve it with anything sweet, eg cake filling, tart filling, on toast, off your fingers. Put it in a jar in the fridge, it should last a week or so.

Cherrys First Apple Pie

Dinner

It had been wet day, and I was totally over the mob here. During the day, I had helped Cherry make her first apple pie. I tend not to do to much cooking with the kids, they sort of get in the way, and fight, but I have decided to relent on this, and only allow one at a time to cook with me, and be more insistant about them cleaning up as well.

So, she presented my with her peeled apples, when I got back from a seminar at lunch time. We made a short crust pastry, no recipe, I just dump the stuff, in the bowl in the right order and tell her what to do. eg rub the butter into the flour, etc,etc. Rolled, Filled. egg washed, and Ta Da, apple pie.

We had it after one of my no fuss chicken and veg. roasts, because

I wanted to visit a friend close by, it was 5 o,clock, and I really needed to get out of this mad house.

So I filled a baking tray, with chicken legs, potatoes, sweet potato, carrot, and onions, all cut to the same size. added some whole garlic cloves (skins on) the juice and the quarted pieces of a lemon, sprinkled mixed herbs, and splashed olive oil. Bunged it in a moderatly hot over, and left the house.

Walked back in the door at 6.30 took the tray out of the oven, microwaved the brocoli, and dinner was on the table. They all loved it but lamented the fact that there was no gravy. Oh well, the idea was a good dinner with little effort, anyway I made custard, to go with the Apple pie.

Yum oh, apple pie and custard. This girl, had a belly on her like a stuffed pup, after her dinner.

Lets Go St George

Lets Go..Following Jesus, was the theme for a 3 day kids Club, that Redcliffe Uniting Church ran in St George. Looking at the time after Easter, Lets go down the road with Jesus, Lets to upstairs with Jesus, and Lets go fishing with Jesus.
We had singing, games, movie bits, groups, crafts, food, fellowship, and lots of love.
It was a great week, lots of kids having a great time, and young leaders, learning the ropes.
Praise God, for all the things he does, big and small.

Its so good to actually be trying to sell my stuff, instead of just accumulating it. I did a festival/Market it was good, and I sold stuff, even better, but not a the prices I would like. Its hard to earn a living wage as a crafts person.
Abit more work figuring it all out, and i'll be department store material.

These images were created, first by setting up the Church stage in to 3 sceenes, The Garden, the Trial, and Calvery. The sceens were then potographed, and then I painted in images of Jesus. In the image of the trial, the courtyard is a painted backdrop.

Tea Cosy Swap

I particapted in a swap on Down to Earth Blog. This is what Liz at Luv2create made for me. Its been made of recycled fabrics, and has beautiful applique, finished in blanket stitch, my favourite stitch.

This is the tea cosy i made for Liz. If you google rosy cosy, you'll find it.

I really struggled to follow the croctet pattern, because i haven't ever followed a pattern,, so i don't know if it was me or the pattern. I needed to do a lot of figuring out, and maybe even improvising. But mostly i learnt somthing. Swaps are a great way to extend yourself.

Items of need.

Lots of the stuff I make is about need, somebody always needs somthing made or mended.
We are currently covering books and naming pens, and pencils for school, by the time we have finished we will have named/covered approx. 170 items.
I have seen pencil/pen/crayon holders on several blogs, I can't remember which one, but the are all basically the same thing, and some are very pretty, and lots of love and care, has been poured in.
Though I love the children, making these has been needs based, because the crayons in the box were just to hard, for them to manage.
I have deconstructed, the whole thing, to reduce the amount of time, to make them. The fabric, is some 100% poly, matress making stuff, it has a bit of a canvas quality. I just cut a strip, left the fluffy selvedge, folded it, ziz zagged, the edge (I don't overlock) and sewed all the little pockets. Finished with an elastic loop, and a pretty button.

This bit of stuff, is what I have prepared for Church this Sunday. We are doing stuff about the relevance of the bible.
This stuff is for an activity. When the early Christians, were sharing the the word of Christ, they shared bits of letters, stories and stuff, different people had different stuff, and they had to come together to get the big picture.
So in this activity, I got 10 great Jesus quotes, on A3, stained the paper, and tore it up. When people get to Church, everyone will be given a piece, and during the service there will be a time when we all wander around and find the people, with the other bits.

This is the painting I'm working on. It is huge, about twice the size of anything else I've done -- I've only been painting for 12 months.

This is just my foundation image. I did it last week at about 2 one morning, when I was suffering "busy brain" and couldn't sleep.

I'm just waiting for school to start, so I can get on with it.

These are Beau's feet, she is modeling the little slippers I have been working on. I made some for myself, then the kids wanted some. they just love them. I think that I should jigg my pattern again to make baby ones too.

I hope to finish the pattern and post it in the next few days.

This is the kids breakfast, with Home Made Tomato Sauce, They love it.

I was given a box of tomatos, so many, and decided to do somthing special. I adapted the recipe in Stephanie Alaxanders "Cooks Companion" (one of my fav. recipe books)

TOMATO SAUCE

5kg ripe tomatos, chopped

1 table spoon peppercorns and

1tbs clove wrapped in muslin

1tbs ground ginger

1tbs all spice

3/4 bulb of garlic - chopped

30 salt

500ml apple cider vinegar

Boil all these things together for 1 hour, then add

1kg raw sugar

Boil for 2 hours, stir regularly, so that it dosen't

catch on the bottom of your saucepan. Blend it

with a stick blender in your sauce pan. Bottle in

hot sterile jars/ bottles, I used screw cap wine

bottles.

I am absolutly delighted with this sauce, Handy loved it, and licked out the sauce pan. I am totally suprised that the kids like it, I hated the tomato sauce my mother made, I seem to remember it having somthing icky in it, maybe it was the spice, maybe I had an imature pallet.

some things worry me

Some of the e-mail stuff my friends send me, can be a worry. But then sometimes I need somthing to really worry about, besides, being overweight, and what to cook for dinner. Its the "send this to everyone, or no one will love you" stuff that gets me, especially since I can be socially unreliable, and don't always get people. Any way I sort of like this one, and don't want to send it to anyone, in case my friends think I'm lame, so i'll put it here, where i can be as lame as i like. so there.

So other lame/worry stuff, is that the computer has been sick and at the hospital, quite stressfull for me, I've had to read my news on paper, and got my hands dirty. And even more stressfull, is that the camera, needed a battery transplant, which has taken days to find a suitable doner, because the camera is 3 years old, ugg, but Handy to the rescue, I just had to show up at the right place and say "my husband rang and ordered" and hand over the plastic.
All projects have been on hold pending, photographing. There is a new painting in the works, beautiful crochet slippers, my little girls are learning to crochet, and they have taken over the family scrapbooking.

ONLY 5 MORE SLEEPS TILL SCHOOL STARTS. YEAH. I CAN'T WAIT

Which means that the FRACTIOUS children, on the 5th week of the holidays, can let off steam, in mud. Loverly. There was no fighting during this time. The last few weeks of the holidays are hard, -- on mothers, not to mention the kids.

Blahh, Blahh, Blahh

Yes this is what we did yesterday. The Silver Factory was great, just to get this fantastic image. You go into a little booth, have the photo taken, choose which color ways you like, and email it to your self. I love it.There was also a room full of floating silver pillows, a 15 seconds of fame, interactive film piece, building blocks, made from packaging, some computer, and drawing activities. Not enough for Cherry, as there was no "craft"

.The whole Gallery (GOMA) is totally a buzz with the AW exhibition. I will go with Handy, some time soon.

Hippy --Sanitary napkins

Its a monthly thing (ha ha),-- the shopping for Sanitary stuff.
Normally I just buy "home bland" napkins, for 2 reasons.
1. I am overwhelmed by choice, I absolutely don't know what I need, with so much to choose from. So I just pick up the generic, because I figure that they will do the job.----- and they do.
2.The outrageous cost, which I don't remember, because I don't look anymore, and the generic are less than $2.

For many years at night, I'v been useing the old nappies, rolled up, and held in place by nickers. The nappies just get a soak and wash. I'v been very happy with this.
I recently say an article on a blog (can't remember which one) with a link to sewing reusable nappies, and sanitary napkins, and decided to make some.

The fabric, at the top of the picture is moroon, polar fleece, for the bottom layer it acts as a barrier. 1 layer The Grey, is an old towel -1 layer, The black is a cotton/hemp - 2 layers. These have been cut to that smaller pattern piece, and zigzagged together.
The cover, cut from the big pattern piece, is a bright cotton, and the purple is a cotton knit. The cotton grip sort of sticks to the gussett of your nickers and stops the pad from moving.
I wear these with firm fitting black nickers, and I have been very happy with the results.

Hats/Beanies

These are the "Pin up Boy" hats, designed by Jared Flood. The light blue one I did first. It has the mistakes, and is to long, so needs to be turned up. The Pinky one next, but i feel that the multi nature of the yarn, decreases the impact of the pattern, but it shows up when worn. The steel blue one is just about perfect, but I probably need to drop 2 rows of rib.

I got all three done, becuse it rained for my whole holiday. I have memorised the pattern, but there would have to be 8 to 10 hours work at least in each.

This one is called Dizzy, its from the knitty.com site, and is knitted in Patons Jet on 5.5mm needles. I like it, and its not as complicated as "pin up boy"

I'm now waiting on a order from oze yarn of discontinued pretty Jet colours, more Hats. They are just the right size project for me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALANA-ROSE - 17

17 years ago today, I gave birth to a little black haired baby, that has grown into this young woman. She was born at home in the inner city, after a full night of labor. We had a birthing pool, but water wasn't my thing, it just gave me the chance to behave like a breaching whale, so she was born on the bed. She was born a few minutes after 7am, and one of the most remarkable things is that the room went pink, I guess thats when love entered the room.
She was a beautiful baby, (she thinks she was a bit freaky with long black hair.) I could hardly bare to put her down.
I will be forever thankful to the midwife Olivia, who taught me so much, and totally empowered my to give birth, and breastfeed.

Home birth was not an option, buy the time Handy and I were having babies, Cherry was born in Mt Isa (north west Queenlsand), Beau in Brisbane, and Kurtis, here in Redcliffe.
When Beau was born in Brisbane, by some amazing co-incidence, Alana-Roses midwife, Olivia, was attending in the hospital, and Beau, is named after her, She is acutually Olivia Beau. I like to think that co-incidences, are the message, that we are on the right track.

Alana-Rose, dosen't live with us here, (she prefers an innercity life), so the birthday dinner is tomorrow night, and she will spend a few days with us.

I'm going to have a little weep now.

The dress she is wearing, is the same as the little dresses from a previous post.

Don't they look fantastic, beautiful shrooms. their yellow tops, with the purple of the native violets, an absolute picture, err but the smell, see that black dot in the middle, well thats a fly, yuck, and they were slimy. ehuuu.

Just like coming home, it was great to be back, but the smell. No eclectricty, -- dead fridge, errrr. I left it to Handy, because I hold him responsible. First because he jinxed the fridge, yes, he was worried about it before we even left the house. Secondly, (which I detected the next day) The electricity failure, was because of his lack of Handiness. We have had a broken window in the kitchen, for over 12 months, in winter I put a bit of cardboard over it. Well it rained, and rained and rained, while we were away, and water came in through the window, shorted the toaster, and ta da, one dead fridge. He cleaned it out, I unpacked the car and ignored his dry retching. It was really rank. and because we are a team, I finished the job off. I got rid of the smell by wiping it out with vanilla essence, and put in a box of bi-carb. Its fine now.

Holidays

Here is Beau, all ready to go on holidays. She has done her own packing, and has everything seperated, and labled in to bags, knickers, shorts, longs pants, dresses, t-shirts, P.j's, and elastics,(in mouth). Looks like she just needs a shopping trolley to put it all in.
We are off on a 10 day holiday, with a whole lot of other families, at a conference centre, it means NO COOKING FOR 10 DAYS. How good is that. So for me it will be knitting, reading, and painting, while I watch the kids bounce around the pool, or count them as they run past in a mob. or send them to the movies with Handy. What ever happens, i don't have to cook, now thats a holiday.

Today I have been asked to speak at Church about Love, this is a new experince for me. this is the written version of what I will say.

To the 10 am Redcliffe UC congreation.

Today is the day that we want to be sure, that you are totally maxed out with love, for this Christmans time. So full of love, that there is heaps to spare, that it is overflowing, wetting your feet and touching the hearts of all those people you come across in the next few days,
We are not talking about that human love that waxes and wanes, that can be needy, or demenading.
But Gods love, the love that is always there, the love that is in every breath we take, the love that makes flowers bloom, Gods love is the love that holds everything in place and keeps everything moving foreward.
Before I became a Christian I was a "New Ager". I had always searched for love, human love and I have found it to be elusive and insecure. When I was a "New Ager" I had love, but we called it the light. My tiny human understanding of God need more, and so God sent me Jesus. I get Jesus love, I get that God sent a baby, his son, who grew into a man,- to show us the way. And the way is to love one another.
Its not a love that wants something back, not a love that has conditions or is dependant. You know we can be in a room of people who love us, and still feel un loved. Gods love for us is our very foundation, the rock of our lives and through Jesus we are told what love is , in Pauls first letter to the Corinthians he repeated what Jesus had taught him. " If I have no love than I am nothing". Sometimes I feel like nothing when the Humans around me don’t love me the way I want them to. What keeps me together is knowing Gods love.
Jesus love, is a love that serves, nurtures, heals, and forgives, it is constant and gracious.
At this Christmas time we are called to stand up for Jesus, to spread the news of his mirical birth, and to be the embodiment of Gods love for human kind.
So lets get down to the nitty gritty of this time, It can easily be, a really stress full time, we all know that. And I am going to ask to you rise above that stress, and embrace the people around you. To behave as Jesus would, enjoy the joy, the hospitality, and the people around you.

Serve out of love, not because of a sense of duty or obligation. If you feel obliged to serve, either change your attidue, or don’t bother serving, because service without love, is meaningless, in Gods world.
The really big thing to remember is that sharing the Love of God, is a Choice you make
So here is a little exercise you can do if it all getting to much, (everyone stand), Ok raise your hands in the air,- take a deep breath, -and another one, and say " God please fill me with your grace and love". Amen.
If you see others stressing out, have a quite prayer for them, smile offer to help, laugh it off with them, be there for them, let them feel the love from your Maxed out heart. Remember love is good, love is kind, love is generous.
And God loves you.

At the end of the service, everyone was invited to experience some love. In a walk through, that touched all the senses.

We burn't Sandal wood and rose insence, and played Bethovens "Moonlight. Sonata" The lights were dimmed and we had fairy lights.

Walking through the curtians, touch, beautiful soft fabrics.

Here is Kurtis, my Angel (Ha Ha) he sat very quitely, and sprayed everyones feet with rose water.

Taking a moment to stop, see your reflection, and say God Loves Me.

Someone who cares.

The walk through finished with hugs, and a cold drink, strawberry/rose/kaffir lime cordial, I made mixed with sodawater.

It was great, and I would like to give a big thanks, and hug to Jen, for helping and being so much fun, and to the REV Pete, for allowing such creativity.

Closet Knitter

I just love this hat. I saw it on the "Brooklyn Tweed" blog, and just had to have the pattern. Thanks to Sooz (see list at side) I got hold of the mag, its in Interweave Knits Holiday Special 2007.

With soooooo much to do at this time of year, I was making myself wait untill I went on holidays, but that proved much, and I started it.

To fit it in, I'm knitting anywhere, anytime , and keep it in my handbag, I've knitted at the dog park, while kids and dog, ran around, I've knitted while waiting for meetings. But by far the best ilicit knit I have had, has been at that really big hardware store. I promised the kids, that if they let me get my lights and stuff, without any grief, they could hang out in the indoor play space.

I settled down into the comfy out door furniture display, and had a knit, while the man in the "Warrick Cappa" shorts unloaded a pallet. The children were happy, and I was at peace.

The "Knitter's Pin Up Boy"(Sooz), Jared Flood, oringinally knited this in Himalyan Yak wool, which is just a tad exotic for around here, so I'm using good old Australian Patons, Its called Jet, its 70%wool, 30% alpaca, 12ply.
I am really happy with this, and will make many, Handy wants one in Maroon (Go Queensland), and the children want them, I will need to buy more wool so I can enjoy my holiday; Test Cricket and Knitting, dosen't get much better than that.

Its looking a lot like Christmas

This is Cherry, and the finished Ginger Beer, she made the lables, looks like the spelling is wrong on this one, oh well. We will use it for gifts, and hospitality.

Handy and the Kids, put up the tree weeks ago, one day when i was at the markets, and they needed entertainment. I like to wait for the school holidays to start, because it gives them somthing to do. Today, we got out a Christmans tablecloth, the Nativity stuff, and the Stockings

The stockings are made like handbags. They are made from Craft Print stocking, bought as a pair, in the sales. I'm cheap so figured 2 pairs equals 4 shapes, so they all have the other side in deep red cotton velveteen, soft gold fringing, a padded top, and they are lined in black satin. They are just lovely, the kids get to cart all their stuff around on Christmas day in them, then its back to the cupboard. This is their 3rd outing.

Christmas Lights, PO BOX HEAVEN

This is one of the Christmas Lights windows I've been working on. This is a memorial wall, to acknowledge, that people are missing Family and Friends at Christmas Time, that not only is it a time of great happiness, it can also be a time of great sadness.

The people who have participated in this installation, have appreciated the opportunity, to publicly acknowledge their grief. In the lead up to Christmas, our Church is open every night, during this time I hope to collect more 'dedications'. Thanks to all those people who participated, may the peace of God be with you, at this time.

New Dresses

I made this dress for a cocktail party. Good Party, Great Dress, I love it, feels great on, fantastic to touch. beautiful colours.

Here is a close up of the fabric, it has chenille baubles.

This is the dress and the pattern I was going to make today, to wear tommorow, of course. The fabric, is a Mambo print 100% pure poly, and much to my horror, it just refused to sew, I mean the stitches just didn't happen, I changed needles, I even changed sewing machines, and absolutely no joy. I got stressed, because I am supposed to go to a Kids party at Handy's new office, in the city tomorrow, and I realy don't feel that I have anything suitable to wear, hence the dress. I dragged out some other fabric, also a Mambo print, and pretty wild, put the dress together, all the time thinking, this is just heading towards fashion disaster. Guess what, It is fashion disaster, probably o.k. at the beach (fortunatly thats where I live) but not o.k. for a fancy city office.

Handy likes the above dress, and thinks I should wear it, I'm not so sure. I think it will be another session at the sewing machine today, for a simple top, and my trusty black pants, (boring)

Why don't I just shop, you say. Well I'm a curvy size 18, and I struggle to find anything I really like. And being a Dress/Pattern maker, I am also cheap, and don't much want to buy myself stuff made in china.

Apron Swap

This is the apron, from the Down to Earth, apron sway I particiapated in. It came from Jeanne, in the United States, she lives in the Shanendoah Valley, and they have apples, so I got an apple apron, It is double sided, and has huge pockets, which is great, with all the stuff I drag around. I use it as a work apron (not house work), art, craft and market work.

Christmas Gifts

When I started reading blogs a few months ago, Rhonda, at Down to Earth, had done a dish cloth swap. I read all about dishcloths, which is hugely exciting stuff for me (HA HA) anyway, I love stuff you reuse and don't just chuck, and I like to knit, so I have knitted a whole lot of dish cloths, for Christmas presents. I know that they are not really very exciting, and may not be regarded, as the best gift my friends get, but I do know that I made them with love, and they will be used everyday. I am packaging them with a bar of soap, in which I have carved the word KITCHEN.

I don't think that I will get much "wow" factor out of the gifts I give, but I am totally satisfied, that they are gifts that will be used. No more junk buying for me.

Getting Ready for Christmas

This is how I am wrapping our Christmas gifts. Brown paper, (it's my pattern making paper), a strip of purple paper, and a gold ribbon. I'm happy with it.

Last Day

Yesterday was Kurtis's last day at kindy, here he is being a Magi (wise man). His lines, "lets follow the star and find him" and "I've got frankinsense". He sang the loudest, and had a great time.

I on the other hand, was barely keeping it together, and cried and cried and cried. I am generally sentimental at my childrens shows (and anything else), but yesterday marked the end of 5 years at this Kindy.

This is Mrs Bucan, She had been a great friend, and the most beautiful teacher for all my children. She knew that i would be a mess, and presented me with this mortar board and a graduation certificate, trying to soften the blow, I guess. I've been Vice President this year, and will stay on the committe, for a while yet, there is to be changes in the Kindy, due to social preasure, and i want to be part of the moving foreward, making sure that future families get the best for their children, and that kindy remains community owned, and dosen't get sucked into corporate childcare.

Today is also the day, that the Jeep went, I loved this car, but being a truckie 6 cylinder, used way to much petrol. I have hardly left the Peninsular in the 12 months I've had it. It also needed work done on the steering, and Handy decided it was to expensive to keep. I'm getting somthing 4 cylinder.

And isn't he beautiful. I am absolutly positive that Jesus was a beautiful baby, one that slept through the night and didn't sick up, all the time.

This centre piece is about 1.5m and is the gift, in a "Jesus is the Gift" window display for church. The rest of the display is wrapped and unwrapped Christmas boxes, and maybe some dud gifts. More photos to come. Let me tell you, this image maxes out my heart with love.

Ginger Beer

In an attempt to controll the amount of sugar my children drink, and because its just plain fun, I'm making ginger beer. This is it fermenting away on day 4. You can get the instruction on The Down to Earth blog, its in the May 07 archive. I'm doing 2 lots, at once so that i have plenty for Christmas drink and gifts, I'm going to make one up with splenda for myself.

3 little dresses

A friend of mine asked me to make some dresses for a little girl, she knows. She gave me a bag of fabric, and asked for a "Fairy Dress" and some Christmas dresses. The pink fairy dress has a stretch top (my fabric) with just a gathered skirt. The Christmas sun dresses, are a simple pattern of mine, I have made many of these for my girls, and use the same pattern (but bigger) for nighties for myself.

Whale Watching

I love whale watching, we have been twice, once at Hervey Bay, where whales holiday, on their way back to the Antartic, and once on our door step, Moreton Bay.
Whale watching is major tourist stuff, and whales seem to enjoy the tourists; they come up near the boats, hang out, check out, play, maybe they even make eye contact. What ever they do, they are fantastic, and i just adore them. So it upsets me the the Japanese kill whales, and call it scientifice research, so i want to get behind Sea Shephard, because they are putting their money where their mouth is and going to the Antartic, to put a stop to this illegal killing of whales.

Flowers

I love flowers, who dosen't? I also, love making flowers, or little confections that represent flowers.

These ones are made with vintage fabric scraps, buttons, and kept stiff, with PVA glue and water. I don't want to be to sophisticated with my stuff, and am not motivated to spend money on fancy findings, liking to reuse/recycle, simplify. So the back has a safety pin, and a bobby pin sewn on.

I keep an empty tin next to my stove to tip in my cooking fats, Handy; dumps cigarette butts in the garden. Ta Da, Fat Butt tins, little bins - recycling empty tins, and having a laugh.

Years and Years ago, in a past life, i did the markets. Handy and i did them when we first got married, but a life with babies wasn't condusive to a market lifestyle for us.

When i do a market stall, i like make everyting, its just so much fun.

I'm doing it because i'm at my happiest making beautiful things, cutting sewing, gluing, laughing at my own jokes.

I'm going to focus on Hats, because I don't think you can buy anything decent, that isn't made in China. I don't want to keep on buying Made in China Stuff. So i'll run with my own little Sweat shop, with me doing all the sweating. These hats are made from my collection of vintage fabric, and I will have another design this week.

I'd like to get $40 each for these hats, at the markets, and when i get it together, in my Etsy store.

Plumbing the New Tank

We have water restrictions, due to unprecedented drought conditions. Water restrictions mean that we have 4 minute showers, and the kids only get fully bathed, altogether every other day, (they don't mind).

Water restrictions also mean, you can only bucket water for one hour 3 times a week; no fun in that.

So we bit the bullet and got a 10 000L tank, cost $1 700, and we will get $1 300 back in rebates, in a few months time.

I wanted the tank so that i can grow vegies, and fully enjoy the watering, which i think is one of the best parts of gardening, and secondly so that the children have water to play in, they haven't had this luxury for several years, as we have has no sprinklers or childrens wading pools.

We installed the tank ourselves, which was reasonably stressfull, as H.A. (read Hubby) is no tradesman but loves handy man work, and needs me to help, but often fails to tell me how.

All this handy work is further comprised, by the SPECIAL LANGUAGE OF PLUMBERS. , Yes plumbers have their own language, they are the only people who know that a fitting that is called 32mm is physically 40mm and a fitting that is called 25mm is physically 32mm. This is why plumbing is such a specialised trade, you have to know these tricky things, and because we don't, it took 3 trips to the hardware shop, wow.

So the tank is installed and we have even had rain, Yeah.

Apron Swap

I'm involved in an Apron Swap, through the Down to Earth Blog. This is it, its going to JJ in Virginia, USA. It is made from 100% cotton, and is essentially upholstry fabric, its has a nice waffle weave texture on the cream stripes, i think it will wash down, like a soft teatowel. The pleats across the top give it some shape, and allow the big pockets to sit out a bit, ready to receive stuff. The stich work is done in back stitch, and stem stich, and i choose a wine theme, because thats what my swap partner and i discussed. I really enjoyed making this, as i enjoy making all gifts.

I posted it yesterday, along with a knitted dishcloth, and an op shop "Australian Wildflower" table cloth. I hope she likes it. J.

I did this painting in response to this theme, and inspired by my favourite song, that has a chorus, that goes "Come to the river and drink from the water of Life".

We will print out the painting on post cards, with all our Christmas information, and make "Agape" buy cutting out the heart, and doing somthing with it, haven't figured out what yet, but it will probably involve chocolate.

Well this is it, doing the blog thing, What happening? Sunday afternoon and its really windy, and overcast, but no rain about. So far this afternoon, the kids have been fighting over lunch, the electric piano, and now over a game of cricket. I would love to get involved and fight with all of them, but am resisting, as i do enough of it during the week, the Good Cop can have a go instead. I just wish they would all go to bed.
